Comfort and Consolation

Acceptance

At the cliff edge,
each swirling wave
accommodates itself
to the unchanging contours
of impenetrable rock.
In repeat and sighing retreat,
foaming fingers
play their endless symphony
— tender acceptance
of rocky resistance.

The massive lump of shale
endures these attentions
with hunkering fortitude,
immobile
in adamantine acceptance
of this persuasive persistence.

Let me be the waves that wash over you, accepting your solid boundaries.

And let me be the rock that does not swerve from accepting the nature of what is brought.
