Platonic thoughts from a sensualist

Sweet friend, whose tender care wraps round me,
How will you know me in your thoughts
If my hand never rests in yours?

You will know me by my laughter
Welling freely in your presence;
Know me by my loyalty
Keeping step with you;
Know those times of darkness
When I call for comfort;
Know my joy of life that,
Overflowing, drenches you.

Sweet friend, who I wrap in my care,
How will I know you in my thoughts
If my hands never rest in yours?

I will know you by the steady smile
Beaming through your words;
Know your delight in friends and fields,
Your care and trust and goodwill;
Know those times of difficulty
When you struggle not to be swept away;
Know you by your sparkling interest,
Yearning to enter my world.

In considering the writings of Tirra Lirra, I found "Platonic Thoughts From a Sensualist" be be particularly appealing.

I believe that is because the words describe how I feel about Tirra herself but am unable to put in such exquisite words. The realm of friends around the world who talk but never meet and who know each other through words and thoughts alone is a comfort. The poem expresses that we can know others without our hands resting in the others. Humankind can communicate, know, feel, even without physical presence.

I feel that I do know Tirra and this poem expresses that feeling in a special way. The idea of a "steady light", "trust and goodwill" and "sparkling interest" serve well to describe such friendship. While this poem was written for all to enjoy, I also feel that it was written for each individual who chooses to read it.
