Winter dawn

Quiet-quilted and shut-eyed snug
in wintry awakening
I attend a harmony of dove
miner-bird, currawong.
Their mellow notes
a cold day entrain.
Correction!
no crisp wintersong this -
mild summer carols
rearrange the day.

Last summer, or next,
or that English summer
thirty years since, stir me
before dawn today.
Get up! Out of bed!
Summer’s here!
Nothing’s the same as yesterday.
